Out of the bushes appear three figures. On all sides sinister shadows of mountains creep in on them. They come closer and the light in the kitchen tent illuminates their faces. We welcome them, yelling welcome, we are here to help you. We ask them to sit down and we bring them water. The youngest one cannot get enough it, but his body cannot take it all and the water backs out of his mouth. He drinks some more. He says, “This is the best water I ever had.” We ask them if they want something to eat and they say "si, yes, por favor, gracias." We heat up some rice and beans and tortillas. We ask them how they found our camp. They say they saw a wood sign with La Virgen, lit up under an electric bulb. The sign promised water and medical care a few kilometers if they just kept walking.
